10. Sunrise/Sunset Incline Hike
How can hiking a mile up the Manitou Incline with a 2,000ft elevation gain become romantic? Pack a picnic and plan the hike so you can reach the top to witness the sunrise. We have to admit, it is well worth the sacrifice of sleep to catch the incredible views of the sun rising over the city in the morning.
9. Take a History Tour
Colorado Springs History Museum is located in downtown Colorado Springs and offers free admission to its exhibits. You can keep things interesting by taking a tally of how many epic mustaches you find. The one who finds the most wins, obviously. If you visit between 3pm and 6pm, you should also stop into neighboring restaurants Mackenzie’s Chop House or Nosh for great happy hour menu deals.
8. Listen to Live Music
Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night Poor Richard’s and The Wild Goose Meeting House host free live music and entertainment. Buy a glass of wine and enjoy a variety of music styles all for the price of sitting and drinking.
7. $2 Tuesdays
Every Tuesday night, restaurants in Colorado Springs like to offer menu prices that rhyme. $2 Tuesdays means $2 tacos, beer, pizza, you name it. Participating vendors include Jose Muldoon’s, Old Chicago Pizza and Tap Room, Jack Quinn’s, Brunswick Bowling, and more.
6. Volunteer Together
Springs Rescue Mission, along with several other organizations, provides programs for you to sign up and volunteer in an area of your choice. This is a great way to get involved with the care of your city, while also sharing in a service project together.
5. Tour a Brewery
Beer is a delicious icebreaker. Sometime sitting across the table from one another is still unnerving. So shake things up a bit (not your glass) and start by taking a tour of the brewery together. Several local breweries give tours of their facilities, along with a variety of beer samples to choose from. To name a few: Bristol Brewing, Great Storm Brewing, and Phantom Canyon are among the top of our list.
4. Dessert and a Movie at the Broadmoor
The Broadmoor Hotel is among the few luxurious, historic hotels of America. It has maintained a 5-Star and 5-Diamond ranking for several years in a row. Maybe the Penrose Room is out of your budget, but do not lose heart. The Broadmoor Café offers affordable coffee and desserts made by their finest culinary team. Pick up a treat or two and head over to their movie theater (located in the main entrance) for a free movie viewing 7pm nightly. But shh! Don’t tell them we sent you. It’s a secret. The movie theater is open to all residing guests of the hotel. So throw on your finest 1920s Fitzgerald accent and mosey on in like you own the place.
3. Get Cultural with First Friday
On the first Friday of every month, our downtown partners host free gallery receptions, art openings, and local performances all around the city. Check out www.downtowncs.com for a free map and schedule of upcoming cultural events.
2. Gamble in a Western Town
Take a mini road trip up to Cripple Creek and go gambling. Here’s the catch. Each of you can only gamble $2.00. All the casinos in town offer free drinks every 20 minutes you are there. Plus, it is a fun little day trip without spending a ton of money.
1. Change it Up
It is true for all of us. Some of our best childhood memories are centered around victorious wins playing arcade games. So why not share that with your date? The indoor/outdoor Manitou Springs Penny Arcade takes you back in time. All you need is about $5 worth in quarters to play your favorite childhood games like Pacman, Water Gun Horse Race, and Skeeball. A few dollars of fun can quickly turn into priceless new memories.
